A day in the life of a Project Manager

Here at Mtec we have built a reputation as experts among our field when it comes to shipping. However, we wanted to give you an insight into the scope of the work that we do, and what better way to do that than follow one of our experienced Project Managers for the day?

So we sent our project manager, Paul Embleton, out for a day’s work with a camera in-hand and had him fill us in on his travels:

8:30am – On the road heading into London for my day of meetings and site visits. Catching up on phonecalls with the office (handsfree of course!)

10am – Meeting at White Cube  starts to discuss Marc Quinn’s forthcoming show (link). Mtec will be responsible for packing and shipping all over-sized works as well as project management and installation of the show.

12pm – Arrive at Barbican to carry out site visit ready for the arrival of Coriander Press’ Vinyl Factory . Today’s visit is all about checking out access for bringing the shipping container into the space and working out the logistics of doing this.

1pm – Lunch on the go in the van (aka my office on wheels). Catching up with emails and drafting some quotes before heading off to my next meeting.

2:30pm – Pull up at MDM‘s new premises. We have a very close relationship with many reputed fabricators and propmakers and today’s visit was all about catching up on the various projects they are working on and visiting their new premises to make sure we can use the site in the best possible way logistically when packing and collecting exhibition materials and artworks.

4pm – Arrive back at our Ware Headquarters to oversee the inward shipment of some works from an artists studio. The works will be stored in our state-of-the-art facility until we take them for installation later on in the month.

5pm – Finally back at my desk to finish off the day’s admin and work the planning and quotes required after today’s meetings. Today has been a pretty standard day for me working on all areas of Mtec’s business from fabrication to packing, project management to installation.
