Sculpture in the City 2016

Whilst last week’s Art News was dominated (and quite rightly so) by the opening of the Tate’s Switch House, another art calendar staple was beginning to take shape on the other side of the Thames: Sculpture in the City 2016.

Mtec have been busy installing works around the City of London over the last two weeks including pieces by Mat Collishaw, Ugo Rondinone and Sarah Lucas and are again proud sponsors of the program.

You can keep up-to-date with the installations by following @sculpturecity and @mtec0 on twitter, and via the hashtags #installedbymtec & #sculptureinthecity. If you see us at work make sure you tag us too!

Sculpture in the City 2016 runs from Jun, 28 and more information can be found at the Sculpture in the City website.

Mtec Recommends… June 2016

The summer has begun and here are our exhibition recommendations: some staples of the art calendar and some new and exciting additions.

May, 28 – Sep, 4 2016 Lincoln Castle – Poppies:Wave

Lincoln Castle becomes the second venue to host this monumental work by Paul Cummins and Tom Piper. With it’s rich history and strong ties with World War One, Lincoln proves to be an inspirational setting for this breathtaking and emotive work.

Jun, 10 – Oct, 9 2016 Serpentine Pavilion and Summer Houses – Various Artists

This year the Serpentine Pavilion is joined by a series of Summer Houses which all take inspiration from the park’s rich history. You can read more about the individual Summer Houses and this year’s pavilion (designed by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG)) here.

V&A Engineering Season

From June, 18 – Nov, 6 2016 the V&A will be holding a number of events and exhibitions for their Engineering Season which highlights engineers as the ‘unsung heroes of design’. Mtec will be installing the Elytra Filament Pavillion, designed by architect Achim Menges with Moritz Dörstelmann, structural engineer Jan Knippers and climate engineer Thomas Aterm which opens on May, 18.

The Pavilion will grow over the course of the Season in response to data on structural behaviour and patterns of inhabitation of the Garden and visitors will have the opportunity to witness the Pavilion’s construction as new cells are fabricated in-situ by a Kuka robot.

Other events include a celebration of British Engineering in London and an exhibition covering the legacy of Ove Arup’s life’s work.
