#12daysoninstallation Mtec Artfairs | Frieze Sculpture Park 2018

Once again we have the honour of being heavily involved in Frieze Sculpture Park as complete art logistics providers, working with some of the world’s leading galleries to transport, install and pack a number of works belonging to the full contingent of 25 contemporary and modern sculptures. Two years after the decision was taken to extend the period for which the works will be on show in the park, the works will be installed at the beginning of July and remain until the end of the fair in October. Claire Lilley remains as curator of the park and, new for 2018, also lends her esteemed knowledge and voice to a new app and audio tour available throughout the park. Continue Reading…

#12days Mtec Installations | Millicent Fawcett @ Parliament Sq.

We are very proud to announce our involvement in the installation of Gillian Wearing’s Millicent Fawcett in Parliament Sq. The bronze is the first sculpture of a woman at the iconic site and also the first created by a female artist.

Following a campaign calling for a female subject to be installed in the square, Wearing went on to create a piece with touching, insightful detailing, including the incorporation of one of Fawcett’s own brooches which was scanned from an original belonging to the Fawcett Society and cast into bronze. The statue holds a sign which reads “Courage calls to courage everywhere”, taken from a speech she gave after the death of fellow campaigner Emily Wilding Davison at the 1913 Epsom Derby.Continue Reading…

Mtec Installations | ‘Poppies:Wave’ @ Fort Nelson

Our ongoing relationship with 14-18 NOW has led us to yet another poignant and successful installation of ‘Poppies: Wave’, this time at Fort Nelson in Hampshire. Four years on from their original installation at the Tower of London, the ‘Wave’ element of the multi-faceted piece, conceived to commemorate the centenary of World War One, is in its final year of touring the UK. Having previously been exhibited at Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Shoeburyness, it will remain in its current position for the next three months. The original installation saw 888,246 poppies displayed, one for every British or Colonial life lost between 1914 and 1918. Continue Reading…

Mtec Installations | Barry Flanagan @ New Art Centre

As part of our #25yearsofmtec celebrations, where we are looking back over some of our favourite projects, we are looking at the relocation and installation of one of Barry Flanagan’s momentus hare sculptures. Barry Flanagan has been a very important part of Mtec’s history and one of the artists whom we have worked with most consistently throughout our 25 years. We continue to work extremely closely with his estate and the installation of ‘Acrobats’ is testament to this.Continue Reading…

Mtec Services | Artfairs 2018

Our Art Fair team have just returned from another successful Art Basel Hong Kong, where we have been overseeing the shipment and installation of works for a number of galleries. As per the other major fairs we attend, the Mtec team were on site to provide shipping estimates to aid client sales, to assist with dispersal at the end of the fair and look after the de-install and return shipment of works to the UK. During the fair we had the pleasure of being able to visit some of the stunning booths as well as pop-up events around the city, including watching legendary Chinese performance artist the Frog King (Kwok Mango-Ho) write exhibition-goers names in Chinese at the 10 Chancery Lane Gallery booth.

We are looking forward to continuing our work at art fairs throughout 2018 and will be attending the following over the Spring/Summer:Continue Reading…

Mtec Installations | Sir Anthony Caro @ Church of Saint Jean-Baptiste, Bourbourg

As we progress through our 25th Anniversary year, we will be looking back at some of the most groundbreaking, poignant and technically challenging installations of our history.

10 years on Sir Anthony Caro’s installation, Chapel of Light, at the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste in Bourbourg remains just as poignant and dramatic. Situated in the previously concealed choir of the church, Caro’s series of stunning sculptures were conceived as a memorial in honour of the friendship and support experienced between Britain and France during WW2.

Firstly, struck by an artillery shell and secondly, hit by the flaming tail of a crashing German bomber, the bell tower collapsed in an inferno Continue Reading…
