Silver FORS Accreditation

Last year we announced that our fleet had been awards Bronze FORS accreditation and we’re proud to announce that another year on, following an additional audit, we have been upgraded to Silver accredited status. You can read more about the process of accreditation here.

Our commitment to our fleet, whether it be our green credentials, sending our drivers on and technicians on Safer Urban Driving Courses, or the additional safety measures we retro fit to our vehicles, is one of our main priorities and we are constantly looking for ways we can expand, improve and develop from an environmental, health & safety and of course fine-art logistics perspective.

V&A Engineering Season

From June, 18 – Nov, 6 2016 the V&A will be holding a number of events and exhibitions for their Engineering Season which highlights engineers as the ‘unsung heroes of design’. Mtec will be installing the Elytra Filament Pavillion, designed by architect Achim Menges with Moritz Dörstelmann, structural engineer Jan Knippers and climate engineer Thomas Aterm which opens on May, 18.

The Pavilion will grow over the course of the Season in response to data on structural behaviour and patterns of inhabitation of the Garden and visitors will have the opportunity to witness the Pavilion’s construction as new cells are fabricated in-situ by a Kuka robot.

Other events include a celebration of British Engineering in London and an exhibition covering the legacy of Ove Arup’s life’s work.

Our commitment to a Green Fleet

truck

This month saw the addition of another Mercedes-Benz Actros to our large and versatile fleet. This extremely green asset, to our already environmentally clean inventory of vehicles, means that we are now 99% EURO 6 according to European emission standards and are committed to being one of the “Greenest” fleets of vehicles in London.

The latest Actros truck is slightly smaller than our other model, giving us greater manoeuvrability around the city streets. The vehicle has an internal length of 9m, width of 2.4m and internal height of 3m, with a 3Tonne tail lift and the capacity to have a courier seat in the cab. As with all of our fleet, it has built in tracker so we can monitor locations at all time for security and keep our clients aware of their cargos progress.

If you would like to learn more about our any of our fleet or have any questions about the environmental or logistical credentials of our fleet then please drop us an email (info@mtecfreightgroup.com)

Shipping Update: Artfairs and Consolidated Shipments

Following the development’s we featured in last month’s blog, our Shipping department has been planning ahead for the next quarter and utilising the new resources and processes put in place by the expanded team. February has been just as busy as January with shipments travelling by air and see to artfairs in Hong Kong, Mexico, Geneva, New York and Dubai, as well as various large scale projects. March sees consolidated shipments leaving for Hong Kong, and Sao Paulo. Both destinations are via art truck to Europe for direct main deck service with airport supervision.

Looking further ahead, as well as our dedicated Shipping Mailouts (which you can subscribe to here) we will be sending quarterly Artfair Updates which will give our clients and partners a heads-up for consolidated shipments leaving for Artfairs across the globe. This will give our customers a chance to utilize competitive transport options as well as book our experienced technicians for on-site installation assistance and project management at the fairs. The first of these updates will be sent out later this month where we will be focusing on consolidated shipments to Frieze NY, Miart and ArtBasel.

We are already taking bookings for these fairs now that the season of art fairs is in full swing. If you would like quotations to manage your art fair logistics or have any questions, please contact edward@mtecfreightgroup.com

KAWS @ Yorkshire Sculpture Park

We spent much of the cold, blustery January amidst the Yorkshire Countryside, and although it might have felt at times like we had drawn the short straw (especially when compared to colleagues who were working in locations like the Jeddah Peninsula in Saudi Arabia!), the end result made it an invaluable experience.  We had previously installed work by KAWS at Frieze Sculpture park but installing these hauntingly beautiful works at YSP, in the artist’s first major UK exhibition, was a unique and rewarding experience. YSP have commissioned this brilliant video which shows the installation of ‘SMALL LIE’ (2013) where you can see our project managers and technicians at work. The 10-metre tall sculpture can be seen with other works in the park as well as a collection of paintings and smaller sculpture in the Longside Gallery until Jun, 12 2016.
