Mtec Installations | Alina Szapocznikow @ Hepworth Wakefield

Our latest project as proud, ongoing sponsors and supporters of the Hepworth Wakefield took place in October with the opening of Alina Szapocznikow’s latest show, Human Landscapes. Mtec coordinated the transport for the import of the artworks, as well as the complex packing of these particularly fragile artworks. Our in-house casing specialists created an innovative floating base-crate specially conceived with the reactive and delicate nature of the artwork’s concrete medium in mind, designed to withstand vibrations and movement in transit which could lead to cracking and losses. In total we fabricated 27 new,  bespoke cases in our workshop which were used in  collections from more than 22 lenders spread between Poland, France, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Argentina and UK.

By far the most complex element of our involvement was the organisation of collections from seven Polish museums located in Warsaw, Lodz, Krakow and Wroclaw. Because of the value of the artworks an armed security convoy had to be organised alongside collections, which subsequently escorted our fine-art truck throughout Poland. We also had an experienced courier on the vehicle to supervise the packing, loading  and unloading of the works.

Attending the preview also gave us the opportunity to revisit the stunning permanent collection of the Art Fund Museum of the Year 2017.

Alina Szapocznikow’s Human Landscapes is on until Jan, 28 2018 and you can find out more about visiting at the Hepworth Wakefield website.
