Last weekend saw the 11th European Registrars Conference take place in London, 20 years since the city last hosted the event. Several members from our team were in attendance and relished the opportunity to catch-up with colleagues, clients and industry influencers old and new. The conference’s themes, ‘Evolve, Refresh, Collaborate’, aimed to discuss the evolution of the sector over the last 20 years and look ahead to the many more beyond. Sessions ranged from panel discussions and practical demonstrations to presentations on projects of redevelopment, museum decants, packing and international collaboration.
As ever the scope of sessions was inspiring throughout and the closing panel did not disappoint with its parting message. A question from the audience challenged the gender balance between transport agent and registrar in the panel, voicing what have been an increasing number of conversations of this nature over the recent years and leaving all in attendance with food for thought ready for future ERCs to come.
The chance to attend such an event in our home city was something we couldn’t wait to explore to the fullest, and we are looking forward to other similar opportunities in the forthcoming calendar. We shall be visiting Amsterdam in early 2019 for the PACCIN (Preparation, Art Handling, Collections Care Information Network) Preparators Conference where our Project Manager, Paul Embleton, will be delivering a presentation; ‘Out of Gauge: Shipping and handling oversized artworks’. We hope to impart some industry wisdom and share some of our 25 years art logistics experience with the ever growing art preparator community.
