Mtec Recommends… June 2016

The summer has begun and here are our exhibition recommendations: some staples of the art calendar and some new and exciting additions.

May, 28 – Sep, 4 2016 Lincoln Castle – Poppies:Wave

Lincoln Castle becomes the second venue to host this monumental work by Paul Cummins and Tom Piper. With it’s rich history and strong ties with World War One, Lincoln proves to be an inspirational setting for this breathtaking and emotive work.


 

Jun, 10 – Oct, 9 2016 Serpentine Pavilion and Summer Houses – Various Artists

This year the Serpentine Pavilion is joined by a series of Summer Houses which all take inspiration from the park’s rich history. You can read more about the individual Summer Houses and this year’s pavilion (designed by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG)) here.


 

Jun, 13 – Aug, 21 2016 Royal Academy of the Arts, Summer Show 2016 – Various Artists

Curated by Richard Wilson, this years Summer Show is set to be “unpredictable, stimulating and startling.” We’ve been busy installing Ron Arad’s “Spyre” in the courtyard, which you can view on our blog here.

 


Jun, 17 2016 Tate Modern, Switch House opening – Various Artists

The opening of the Tate’s new extension means 20,700 sq m (222,813 sq ft) more gallery space including the ARTIST ROOMS project, jointly owned by the Tate and the National Galleries of Scotland. Louise Bourgeois will be the first of 40 artists from the collection to be featured.


 

Jun, 25 – Sep, 4 2016 Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Transparency – Various Artists

Transparency is the second in a series of exhibitions from the Arts Council Collection’s National Partners Programme.Including work by Hiraki Sawa, Garth Evans and Yelena Popova, the exhibition considers how artists have investigated subjects such as truth to material, the everyday or ordinary, and material and psychological transparency.
