RA to exhibit groundbreaking 3D Scanner

In September the RA will unveil a new, groundbreaking exhibit in the form of the Veronica Chorographic scanner. Developed by the Factum Foundation, the scanner (which was originally created for medical purposes) gives a highly accurate facsimile of the sitter, which will then be printed as 3D life-size busts. Visitors will also receive an electronic file containing the 3D scan of themselves.

Adam Lowe and Manuel Franquelo, founders of Factum, describe the scanner as a “wart and all” objective view of the self, free from the subjective interpretation of the sculptor. It takes just 4 seconds to take 96 high resolution images from every angle which go on to form the 3 million polygons of the final 3d image. We can’t wait to see it in action!
