Mtec Artfair | Frieze and FIAC

This year Mtec had its largest presence ever at Frieze Masters and Frieze London. In terms of number of vehicles going to and from the site, picture hangers and sculpture technicians on booths and the number of clients appointing Mtec to represent them, it was our busiest fair yet! We were also busy working on other projects around the South-East to coincide with the fair as well as working on client installations at our state-of-the-art viewing facilities close to London.

Our technical team were on hand to take on any last-minute jobs associated with the fair and our dedicated Artfair shipping team were ready to turn around estimate requests, making us a one-stop logistics solution for our colleagues, partners and clients. Our specialist vehicles were at LHR most mornings of the week of the fair for expedite deliveries into and out of town. In terms of consolidated transport, within the week following the fair, Mtec had two large art trucks leaving London for Europe; one serving Paris and Italy, and the other Liege and LUX airports and onto Switzerland.

This year also saw the introduction of our very own client wheels! Galleries and clients were able to borrow our MTEC bicycles to travel both onsite and between the fairsContinue Reading…

Shipping Update: Artfairs and Consolidated Shipments

Following the development’s we featured in last month’s blog, our Shipping department has been planning ahead for the next quarter and utilising the new resources and processes put in place by the expanded team. February has been just as busy as January with shipments travelling by air and see to artfairs in Hong Kong, Mexico, Geneva, New York and Dubai, as well as various large scale projects. March sees consolidated shipments leaving for Hong Kong, and Sao Paulo. Both destinations are via art truck to Europe for direct main deck service with airport supervision.

Looking further ahead, as well as our dedicated Shipping Mailouts (which you can subscribe to here) we will be sending quarterly Artfair Updates which will give our clients and partners a heads-up for consolidated shipments leaving for Artfairs across the globe. This will give our customers a chance to utilize competitive transport options as well as book our experienced technicians for on-site installation assistance and project management at the fairs. The first of these updates will be sent out later this month where we will be focusing on consolidated shipments to Frieze NY, Miart and ArtBasel.

We are already taking bookings for these fairs now that the season of art fairs is in full swing. If you would like quotations to manage your art fair logistics or have any questions, please contact edward@mtecfreightgroup.com

#12days a review of 2015

Over Christmas we ran our #12daysofinstallation and campaigns on our Facebook and Instagram profiles. Gathering together images of our most used (and loved) bits of kit and deciding which installations to include was a great way for us to look back on our most successful year to date. Our social media platforms have grown into a great way to share the work that we do, and also engage with those whom we have been working (remember to tag us or use one of our hashtags if you post something featuring our work).

If you are due to work with us on a project in 2016 don’t hesitate to ask our team about our profiles in order for us to mutually share news, media and updates about our collaborative projects.

Art Fair Overview – Frieze & FIAC 2015

October, as always, has been one of our busiest months so far this year. With numerous responsibilities at both Frieze and FIAC, we have been busy transporting and installing works, firstly at Frieze Sculpture Park, and then in the Jardin des Tuileries the week following.

This year the highlight of Mtec’s involvement at Frieze has been in the Sculpture Park, which has been curated by Clare Lilley from Yorkshire Sculpture Park.Continue Reading…

‘The Catch’ – A sculpture for Rugby World Cup 2015

‘The Catch’ is the latest in an ongoing series of collaborative projects between Land Rover’s Design Director and Chief Creative Officer, Gerry McGovern, and the acclaimed Italian artist, Nino Mustica. Working with Gaucho Productions, two identical sculptures have been installed by Mtec in two of the UK’s most iconic rugby venues (Twickenham and the Millennium Stadium) and will remain for the duration of the Rugby World Cup 2015. . Inspired by the sports’ line-out, the sculpture measures over 8 metres tall and is the second piece to be made by the unique partnership to explore the relationship between abstract art and automotive design.

We initially worked with Land Rover, Nino Mustica and Gaucho Productions on installing the first sculpture in the series, ‘Unstoppable Spirit’, on London’s South Bank for Frieze 2014. The installation of the two 7m high sculptures in such a prominent and public space created its own unique obstacles and the week-long project took meticulous planning. Lifting equipment had strict parameters due to the public nature of the thoroughfare and transport had timed windows in which to arrive and leave around commuter traffic in the area; both issues Mtec have experience in dealing with and working around on major inner-city installations.
