Mtec Installations | Yinka Shonibare @ Royal Academy

Last week saw the opening of this year’s Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and visitors will be welcomed in the courtyard by Yinka Shonibare MBE’s six-metre high ‘Wind Sculpture VI’. The piece was installed by Mtec and the installation is featured in Kirsty Work and Brenda Emmanus’ behind the scenes tour of the exhibition. Head to 33 minutes in for detailed coverage of team Mtec moving the piece into position.

The sculpture will be in situ until Aug, 20 and tours of the exhibition take place every Friday @ 7pm.

For more information you can visit the Royal Academy website and you can see more ‘behind the scenes’ images of the installation on our Instagram and Facebook feeds for the duration of the show.

Mtec Installations | Antony Gormley 3X Another Time | University of East Anglia

Last month we had the pleasure of installing ‘3X ANOTHER TIME’ by Antony Gormley at the University of East Anglia. The installation forms part of the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Art’s initiative to add to their already impressive collection of sculpture on campus and develop a renowned sculpture park at the site.

The installation was captured in a time-lapse video which shows #teammtec at work at the University. The pieces were installed in three locations chosen by Gormley to emphasise the relationship between the original University buildings and the openness of the campus as well as the way they engage with the life of the University. They will form part of an extended sculpture trail around the campus, which UEA hope will create an experience that attracts visitors on a unique cultural day out.

To find out more about the works and how to visit, visit the Sainsbury Centre’s website.

KAWS @ Yorkshire Sculpture Park

We spent much of the cold, blustery January amidst the Yorkshire Countryside, and although it might have felt at times like we had drawn the short straw (especially when compared to colleagues who were working in locations like the Jeddah Peninsula in Saudi Arabia!), the end result made it an invaluable experience.  We had previously installed work by KAWS at Frieze Sculpture park but installing these hauntingly beautiful works at YSP, in the artist’s first major UK exhibition, was a unique and rewarding experience. YSP have commissioned this brilliant video which shows the installation of ‘SMALL LIE’ (2013) where you can see our project managers and technicians at work. The 10-metre tall sculpture can be seen with other works in the park as well as a collection of paintings and smaller sculpture in the Longside Gallery until Jun, 12 2016.

#12days a review of 2015

Over Christmas we ran our #12daysofinstallation and campaigns on our Facebook and Instagram profiles. Gathering together images of our most used (and loved) bits of kit and deciding which installations to include was a great way for us to look back on our most successful year to date. Our social media platforms have grown into a great way to share the work that we do, and also engage with those whom we have been working (remember to tag us or use one of our hashtags if you post something featuring our work).

If you are due to work with us on a project in 2016 don’t hesitate to ask our team about our profiles in order for us to mutually share news, media and updates about our collaborative projects.

Subodh Gupta – “When Soak Becomes Spill”

In October we had the pleasure of working with the artist Subodh Gupta and the Victoria & Albert Museum on both the fabrication and installation of “When Soak Becomes Spill”. The 6m high sculpture will remain on Exhibition Rd, SW7 until 31 January 2016 as part of the V&A’s India Festival.

On receipt of the pre-fabricated bucket, Mtec worked closely with the artist to create sections of welded utensils, which had been shipped from India. These sections were then welded together by our team ready for installation on-site. Working directly with artists from the conception of an idea, through to fabrication, shipping and installation is an exciting process and something we always relish the chance to do. This process has been captured in the above film (commissioned by the V&A) which shows our team at work both at our storage facility in Ware and during installation on Exhibition Rd.

As always we’d love to see your images with “When Soak Becomes Spill”  so be sure to tag us (@mtec0) or use the hashtag #mtec0
