Spring has sprung and it has seen #teammtec installing in some stunning settings around the country and worldwide. This month saw #teammtec install Jake and Dinos Chapman’s epic corten steel trio: ‘The Good’, ‘The Bad’ and ‘The Ugly’. The installation took place in the stunning woodland setting of Cass Sculpture Foundation within the Goodwood Estate, West Sussex. The sculptures spearhead a wider exhibition including the installation “Two Legs Bad, Four Legs Good’ and both pieces can be seen until 16th December.

Ai Weiwei @ Museum of Baalbek

Earlier in September some of our Project Managers travelled to Lebanon to install Ai Weiwei’s ‘Foundation’ at the Museum of Baalbek. The new installation is part of a group show at the prestigious archaeological site called ‘The Silent Echo’, and features Susan Hiller, Theo Mercier, Marwan Rechmaoui, Paola Yacoub, Cynthia Zaven among others. Curated by Karina El Helou and organised in conjunction with Studio Cur/art, the show looks at the importance of on-site Museums and explores in the context of Baalbek, how monuments and artifacts become symbols of an obsolete past, subject to destruction during war and victims of iconoclasm.Continue Reading…

Ai Weiwei’s ‘S.A.C.R.E.D’

After the success of the recent project at Downing College, Cambridge, it was a pleasure to work with Ai Weiwei again, this time in Cuenca, Spain. As part of a series of events taking place across Spain to mark the 400th anniversary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes, Weiwei’s iconic work ‘S.A.C.R.E.D’ is currently being exhibited in the 12th century cathedral of the Spanish city. The work, which is comprised of 6 cells detailing the Artist’s famous incarceration, presented a complex set of logistical challenges as did the unique exhibition space.Continue Reading…

Royal Academy Summer Show 2016

Installation for this years Royal Academy Summer Show is now well underway and we’ve been busy installing Ron Arad‘s monumental work ‘Spyre’ in the Academy’s Courtyard. The constantly moving sculpture has a built-in camera which is constantly recording the sculptures surroundings, watching those observing the piece and the surrounding space. You can view a video of the piece, shot by Arad’s studio here.

This week we uploaded a video of us installing the piece on our Instagram account and Arad spoke from his studio about the piece for the RA, which you can read here.

If you see us installing don’t forget to tag us (@mtec0) or use the hashtag #installedbymtec.

V&A Engineering Season

From June, 18 – Nov, 6 2016 the V&A will be holding a number of events and exhibitions for their Engineering Season which highlights engineers as the ‘unsung heroes of design’. Mtec will be installing the Elytra Filament Pavillion, designed by architect Achim Menges with Moritz Dörstelmann, structural engineer Jan Knippers and climate engineer Thomas Aterm which opens on May, 18.

The Pavilion will grow over the course of the Season in response to data on structural behaviour and patterns of inhabitation of the Garden and visitors will have the opportunity to witness the Pavilion’s construction as new cells are fabricated in-situ by a Kuka robot.

Other events include a celebration of British Engineering in London and an exhibition covering the legacy of Ove Arup’s life’s work.
