David Hockney at the Royal Academy

Hockney is back at the RA, and with a monumental show to say the least. 82 portraits and 1 still-life sees the influential painter return to the academy for the first time since his departure from his Yorkshire homeland and his return to the LA arts scene. The exhibition documents his exploration of portraiture, following a study of his studio manager, via a series of subjects including friends, family, colleagues and acquaintances. Perhaps the most striking element of the series is the uniform size and setting of each of the portraits, helping to unify the group in stunning fashion, something only further cemented when we learn that all pieces in the show were completed in just three days of sittings!

For more information on the show please visit the Royal Academy website here.

Also showing at the RA is this year’s Summer Exhibition which you can read more about here.

‘David Hockney RA: 82 Portraits and 1 Still-Life’ runs from Jul, 2 – Oct, 2 2016.
